Network Commands

It explains commands and tools which are useful while networking with both computers and across the world wide web. It also used in network configuration, remote machines and file transfer.

 Tcpdump

It captures packets off a network. It knows all basic internet protocols.

 Netstat

It displays contents of /proc/net files. It tells the status of ports; which of them are open, closed etc.

 Ping

It send echo requests to host which you specify with in the command line and after processing it lists the responces. To stop ping press CTRL + C

 Syntax:

ping host_name

 hostname

It tells you the hostname of the computer in which you are logged in.

 traceroute

It lists the series of hosts through which packets travel to their destination

 Syntax:

traceroute name_of_machine or IP

 nmap

It used for the query of local and remote machines, what ports are open in those machines etc.

 Syntax:

nmap name_of_machine

 findsmb

It lists the info of the machines that respond to SMB name queries.

 Synatx:

findsmb

nmap
